SELF HELP GROUP - Backbone of Rural Economy

Self Help Groups a backbone of rural economy The Self Help Groups (SHGs) are the major resource of inspiration for women's welfare.
                       
The life of women in our society is always difficult.when the family situation is bad there is always a desire to do something for them.For the past few years the movement of Self Help Groups in India has started to take root. The various schemes of the government and the enthusiasm shown by the NGOs have created employment opportunities for women in large numbers. For the past several years the medium of finance in rural areas has been the money lender, Due to which many poor families are being exploited, To free society from this exploitation of moneylenders ,to eradicate poverty and make women self reliant the Government of India has started "National Rural livehood Mission Program" since 2011.NRLM's main object is to alleviate rural poverty and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for the rural poor. Nearly 10 crore families have benefited through Self Help Groups .
NRLM DATA: 
           1) 6.83 lakh villages in which intensive implementation
           2) SHGs promoted 57 lakh  
           3) Household mobilized in to SHGs 6.20crore
           4) Loan amount disbursed 53000 crore                     
Structure:It is mandatory to have atleast 10 and maximum 20 women to set up a saving group .The Self Help Group must remain active for the period of atleast 6 months from the date of establishment.Work is carried out in Rural and urban areas.                        
          Government & Private banks,NGO's and many organisations are providing loans to Self Help Groups. The women of country have set up a small scale industry through the Self Help Groups.previously self help group were limited to papad, pickles ,milk, handlooms etc.But now the products of saving groups reached to international level.
 NILIMA MISHRA: Nilima mishra as an emerging leader for her working with Self Help Groups across Maharashtra to give micro-credit for poor and also creating better employment opportunities. Today the movement of her Self Help Groups has more than 11000 women engaging in micro-credit,production of quality quilts(GODHADI). exporting to Japan, Netherland, Australia & Germany.
 VEDANTA: A company like vedanta work with 1890 Self Help Group, encompassing 25000 women .The SHGs trained in different vocations. These SHG's have been engaged in household business like mushroom cultivation, poultry,leaf plate making and others. Private companies have good chance to give contract to these Self Help Groups instead of any other vendors.
Self Help Groups created many employment opportunities for women in large numbers, this is because Self Help Groups act as a Backbone of Rural Economy in India and South East Asia.
