Few years back Mashroom are eaten by richer people's and seens in the dishes of royal societies. But today most of the youngsters are cultivating Mashrooms in their house in minimum cost. We can start this business on industry level also .
There are various types of Mashroom in the world .But in India Oyster and Button Mashroom are commercially produced. We are learning here about Oyster Mashroom as it is suitable for Indian conditions and easy to grow.

                   Oyster Mashroom Farming


Raw material for Oyster Mashroom Farming:

Spawn(seed), Substrate,clean water, gunny bags,polythene bags,some big racks,shed for the formation of Mashroom.
*Spawn : Spawn are the seeds which is produced on industry level. You can buy it from online websites like Amazon and flipcart. You may buy it from Agree centers. If your business is large scale and you want to produce your own spawn ,you require your laboratory with necessary equipment with skilled manpower.
Substrate:Substrate is a straw. There are various types of Agriculture waste like paddy straw, maize straw, soyabean straw, sugarcane waste, Jute waste,we can use animal waste like poltry manure, horse manure etc.

Location for Oyster Mashroom Farming;

About 400-500 sq m of area is much enough to start this business. You can start this business in your house also but for that you require a Mashroom Farming shed, with suitable tempreture of 55 to 70 and 80 to 90 degree of humidity. Before you starting this business in specific location you must check some things like availability of electricity, clean and hot water etc.Homemakers can grow Mashroom at the cool corner of their houses in a rack.

Process of Oyster Farming:

Take the straw and choppe it in small pieces.
Soke this all pieces of straw in clean water for 3 to 4 hours.
Drain all water from soked straw.
Fill this all material in gunny bags and pasteurised in hot water at 80 to 90degree.
Remove excess of water from the substrate,by hitting in sun .(Remember that substrate should not be too dry or too wet.
Now your substrate is ready to farm Mashroom.
The next step is of producing mashrooms with the help of this substrate:

Inoculation:

Inoculation is the process of adding Spawn in substrate.
Fill the substrate in polythene bags (Plastic bottles) of 2-3kg. Simultaneously add sprawn (seed) in each bag .
Close mouth of the bag tightly by rubber band.

Incubation:

It  is the condition of your space.(Room/hut) having tempreture 20 to 24 c and prevent direct contact of sunlight. Your room should be darkish.
Now put this bags in a rack ,put in room  where you are cultivating Mashroom.
Kept this Mashroom for 20-25days,till the bags coverd by mycellium( whitish layer). About 15 days required to spawn growing.

Harvesting:

When bag becomes completely white it's time of Mashroom fruiting. After completing period of growing observe that it is not growing anymore,harvest it.

Marketing:

In India there is increasing demand of Oyster Mashroom. You can sell your product to retail investors or in wholesale market. There is new business opportunities of online business also, you can sell on flipcart or Amazon. The main business opportunity that you can supply your product to resturants and hotels on contract basis. On branded store people gives first priority to Oyster Mashroom.You can sell dried and powdered Mashroom also. For producing 1kg of Oyster you can cost about 120Rs and the market range of fresh Oyster is about 250to 300Rs. While dried Mashroom 750 to 900 per kg and powdered 1200 to 1500 Rs per kg of market range. Mashroom remain fresh upto 1.5 month.

Precautions:

Always use clean water for Mashroom cultivation.
Use good quality of substrate.
Maintain correct moisture content of substrate .
Avoid direct sunlight on Mashroom you may use sliding window for lightning.
Sprinkle water after twice day .
Check regularly contamination of Mashroom and discard the contaminated items.
Availability of electricity, clean water,distance from market may affect on your product.

Dehydration:

Dehydration is the process of drying Mashroom. You can dry it in sliced form or fully by heating in dark sunlight for 10 to 12 hours. Or you may use dryer .
You can sell it in powdered form, that have to need a grinding mashine.

Medicle uses of Mashroom:

Mashroom are antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral in nature. Nutritious in nature having capacity to resist against cancer, asthma, respiratory disease and liver disorders.
            It is easy to start in village than city. as in village paddy straw, compost and water are easily available. You can operate it by singal person but if your business is large scale you need about 4 to 5 employees and it is easier to find in village than city. There are various companies which train you by offering seminars and courses, and booklets of krishi department are there which will guide you better.
